Ruthless Devotion review and thoughts:
"He was the other half of my soul―the mirror to my every dark desire. My destruction, my redemption, my salvation: my Heathcliff."
Cathy Earnshaw's got the devil inside her―or at least that's what the small, cultish community she's spent her whole life trapped inside would say. She can sense death coming, and every loss sends her spiraling into a violent, uncontrollable episode of grief, wailing like a banshee across the swampy forests of the Lowcountry. With a secret as dark as hers, there's no hope of relief, or escape, or finding someone with a chance of understanding.
Until she meets him.
Heathcliff's got his own trauma, and a secret just as dangerous as Cathy's. Stolen as a child, raised by necromancers, he's the most forbidden sin she could ever imagine…and the most desperately tempting. Violent in his passions, tender in his affection, he feels like the other half of her soul, but even as they claw desperately to be together, the world seems just as determined to keep them apart.
Because it turns out their little Southern community was built long ago on a graveyard of lies…and every cult needs its sacrificial lamb.
So I normally don't read anything in regards to older romance, I always thought that it felt outdated and very ..cheesy. But when I was given a chance to preview and pre read a book that was a twist with an old story. Now granted I do have to tell you I have not read Wuthering Heights nor watched any versions or movies that are related. So I was purely walking into this read/review with new eyes as I did not know the original story. And I feel like its best that way, in order not to compare both novels. But to come into this book as a new story that I have not read.
So when this story starts right off the bat you are introduced to both characters and the world that they live in. I could definitely relate with Cathy feeling like an outsider within her own community and feeling like you don't fit in nor care to because you have a hard time trusting. Especially with someone who has a secret such as hers , its something that could get her killed or kidnapped. Then you meet Cliff often a loner but once he interacts with Cathy both souls seem to find each other. Both have gifts that are completely out of the ordinary . But once they find each other the world doesn't seem as alone as it use to be. Without taking nor spoiling this novel , I did find out that this is a continuance/part of the series. That you can sorta read without reading in order , but it does and it will help if you read the other novels. In order to understand the characters that appear in the story and to understand their gifts as well. A lot of people often sometimes don't feel like rewrites are great but I definately do have a great love for rewrites and the different views that stories have.
Overall , this is a wonderful novel that made me and got me hooked to read the rest of the series before more novels come out. I will definately be tracking down the rest of the books.
